Vikings proposed marriage through formal negotiations between families or representatives. Once an agreement was reached, the groom would offer gifts or a bride price to the bride’s family as a gesture of goodwill and commitment.

Polygamy was practiced among some Vikings, particularly among chieftains and wealthy individuals. While it wasn’t universal, having multiple wives was not uncommon in Viking society.

Vikings generally treated their wives with respect and regarded them as partners in managing household affairs and raising children. However, the status and treatment of women varied based on factors like social class and cultural practices.
